KDPS Provides Update in Egleston Avenue Homicide Investigation

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) is providing an update on the ongoing investigation into the November 4, 2024, homicide of Paris Powe.

On Nov. 18, 2025, Norris Deshane Baker, 35, was arraigned on the following charges:

  • Open murder
  • Felony firearm (five counts)
  • Assault with intent to murder
  • Armed robbery (two counts)
  • Possession of a firearm by a prohibited person

Magistrate Mark Holsomback presided over the arraignment, and Baker was denied bond.

The charges relate to the shooting death of Mr. Powe in the 400 block of Egleston Avenue. Baker fled the state following the homicide and was taken into custody on Dec. 20, 2024, in Harris County, Texas. He was on parole at the time of the incident.

Baker is currently lodged with the Michigan Department of Corrections awaiting further court proceedings.
