Administration The administration wing consists of the Chief, Deputy Chief, two Assistant Chiefs, and the Chief of Staff.
Community Affairs The Office of Community Affairs (OCA), comprised of the Community Policing Unit, Community Service Team, Social Services Coordinator, Community Collaborator and Pastors on Patrol, works to build trust within our community.
Community Outreach and Problem Solving (C.O.P.S.) In continuance of our balanced approach to crime reduction, specifically violent crime and improving the quality of life in our community, Public Safety has created a division that combines the most proactive pieces of the organization into a singular division called Community Outreach and Problem Solving or C.O.P.S.
Criminal Investigation Division (CID) The Criminal Investigation Division (CID) is comprised of supervising officers, detectives, crime lab specialists, and support staff that investigates crimes.
Emergency Management Hazardous conditions and situations exist in all communities, and the City of Kalamazoo is no exception. They range from such natural hazards as ice storms and flooding, to large-scale health crises, to man-made hazards such as chemical spills and nuclear accidents, to the ultimate threat of a terrorism event.
Operations The largest and most visible division in KDPS, the Operations Division is responsible for initial response to all police, fire, and emergency medical calls for service, plus other things like emergency management and parking enforcement.
Professional Standards Community Affairs & Professional Standards works in partnership with the community to address problems, reduce crime, and improve quality of life. It also investigates allegations of misconduct by officers and employees.
Public Information Officer (PIO) The Public Information Officer (PIO) is tasked with the department's internal and external communications. A position created to increase transparency from KDPS, the PIO relays information on critical incidents to the media and the public through traditonal outlets such as newspaper and Radio/TV news, along with the department's social media pages.
Service The Service Division aims to equip KDPS members with the resources and support to provide high quality services to the citizens of Kalamazoo. It is responsible for functions related to physical assets, procurement, payroll, evidence, quartermaster, fleet management, facility maintenance, and records.
Strategic Planning Provides officers with optimal resources required to best serve the community by fostering a culture of continuous improvement centered on developing strategic objectives, monitoring key performance, and utilizing data trends while maintaining a deliberate focus on accomplishing operational goals.
Training The Training Division is responsible for the initial training, continuing education, and professional development of KDPS’ 300+ sworn and non-sworn employees. The Training Division uses a variety of methods to train our staff.
