Silent Observer Tips Lead to Removal of 3 Illegal Firearms by KDPS

Published on December 07, 2024

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) extends its gratitude to the community for their ongoing partnership in making Kalamazoo a safer place for everyone. The incident below highlights the critical role community members play in helping law enforcement address crime.

On December 5th, at approximately 12:30 p.m., KDPS officers conducted a traffic stop near S. Drake Road and Stonebrook Avenue. During the stop, officers arrested three juvenile males, ages 16, 16, and 14, and recovered a total of three handguns. These individuals were identified because of tips submitted through Silent Observer. The juveniles were taken into custody and lodged at the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home, each facing charges for carrying concealed weapons (CCW).

“This case is a testament to what can be accomplished when the community and law enforcement work hand in hand,” said Deputy Chief Matthew Huber. “Thanks to those who came forward, we’ve taken dangerous weapons off the streets and made Kalamazoo safer for everyone.”

KDPS encourages the public to continue reporting suspicious or criminal activity. This can be done by contacting our Criminal Investigations Division at 269-337-8139 or anonymously through the Kalamazoo Silent Observer tip line at 269-343-2100, the “P3Tips” app, or online at www.KalamazooSilentObserver.com.
