A second suspect has been charged in connection with the 2021 home invasion and fatal shooting of Gerryon Kye, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety announced Tuesday.
On Aug. 12, 2025, the Kalamazoo County Office of the Prosecuting Attorney authorized charges against Julius Curtis Robinson Jr., 28, for his alleged role in the incident. Robinson is currently in federal custody serving a prison sentence on an unrelated charge.
He is charged with:
- Homicide – Felony Murder (MCL 750.316-B)
- Weapons – Felony Firearm (MCL 750.227b-A)
- Robbery – Armed (MCL 750.529)
- Weapons – Felony Firearm (MCL 750.227b-A)
- Home Invasion – First Degree (MCL 750.110a(2))
- Weapons – Felony Firearm (MCL 750.227b-A
The charges stem from a June 26, 2021, incident in the 1300 block of North Rose Street. Officers responding to reports of a shooting found Mr. Kye suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite immediate medical efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to investigators, two masked individuals forced their way into the home during an armed robbery and shot Mr. Kye. Robinson is alleged to be the second suspect involved.
Earlier this year, Isaiah Jacole Willhite, 23, was convicted by a jury on July 17, 2025, of felony murder, first-degree home invasion, armed robbery and three counts of felony firearm in connection with Mr. Kye’s death. His sentencing has been postponed and will take place on Oct. 10, 2025, in Kalamazoo County Circuit Court before Judge Rebecca J. D’Angelo.
“This case has been a long road for our detectives and for the Kye family,” said Captain Danielle Guilds, Head of the Criminal Investigations Division. “The charges against Mr. Robinson represent another step toward justice for Gerryon and his loved ones.”
