Man Convicted in 2021 Home Invasion and Fatal Shooting on N. Rose St

A jury has convicted 23-year-old Isaiah Jacole Willhite in connection to the 2021 home invasion and fatal shooting of Gerryon Kye.
On June 26, 2021, officers with the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) responded to a residence in the 1300 block of N. Rose Street following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found Mr. Kye suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite immediate medical efforts, Mr. Kye was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to witnesses, two masked individuals forced their way into the home and shot Mr. Kye during an armed robbery. Willhite was later identified as one of the suspects and taken into custody. The second suspect remains at large.
Following a jury trial, Willhite was found guilty on July 17, 2025, of the following charges:
- Homicide – Felony Murder
- Home Invasion – First Degree
- Robbery – Armed
- Three counts of Felony Firearm
Sentencing is scheduled for August 15, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. before the Honorable Rebecca J. D’Angelo.

While nothing can undo the loss, we hope this verdict offers a measure of peace to those who have waited so long for answers.”
