Kalamazoo Celebrates National Night Out on August 5

Published on July 31, 2025

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) invites community members to join neighborhoods across the city celebrating National Night Out on Tuesday, August 5. The annual event aims to strengthen ties between residents and public safety personnel, fostering safer and more connected communities.

National Night Out is a nationwide initiative that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. Events will take place in several Kalamazoo neighborhoods, each featuring family-friendly activities, food, public safety demonstrations, and opportunities to engage with KDPS officers and City of Kalamazoo staff.

“Last year’s National Night Out was one of my favorite community events. I loved seeing families out playing games, sharing food, and enjoying time together,” said Public Information Officer Zach Hamelton. “It’s a powerful reminder that the best way to build a safer community is by getting to know your neighbors. These events bring people together and give everyone a chance to connect with Kalamazoo Public Safety and City staff in a real, personal way.”
