On November 3rd, 2025, members of the Kalamazoo Valley Enforcement Team (KVET) and Crime Reduction Team (CRT) were conducting a directed patrol in the 5000 block of W KL Ave in Oshtemo Township to combat illegal weapons offenses. While conducting surveillance of the area a male was observed concealing a firearm in his waistband while in the parking lot of a local establishment, then enter a vehicle parked in the lot. The male is known by investigators to be a convicted felon, and not to be in possession of a firearm.

A loaded Glock handgun with a high-capacity magazine was located next to the male in the vehicle. A second 45-year-old Kalamazoo resident was observed removing an object from his waistband and discarding it on the floorboard of the vehicle upon contact. Investigators found the discarded item to be a firearm, located at the feet of the male in the vehicle. During a search of his vehicle, two additional loaded magazines were located for the firearm. The second male is also a convicted felon, and not to be in possession of a firearm. The two male Kalamazoo residents were arrested and lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail for numerous illegal weapons violations.
