KVET Task Force Seizes Three Firearms During Weekend Operation

Published on August 21, 2025

The Kalamazoo Valley Enforcement Team (KVET) continues its efforts to combat gun violence in our community.  Gun violence has been named a top priority by community leaders and residents of the community.  On Saturday, August 16, 2025, KVET led a task force focusing solely on offenders using, possessing or committing crimes with firearms.  A total of three pistols were recovered.

The first two pistols were recovered off two 17-year-old male Kalamazoo residents who were brandishing them while in and around a vehicle in the 1400 block of Portage Street.  That vehicle and its occupants were contacted in the 3300 block of S. Westnedge Avenue.  Both offenders were lodged at the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home for a felony weapon charge.

The third pistol was recovered off a 34-year-old male Benton Harbor resident after being observed possessing the gun in the 600 block of E. Michigan Avenue.  That vehicle and its occupants were contacted in the 1100 block of Douglas Avenue.  The male was arrested and lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail on a felony weapon charge.  A 34-year-old male passenger, also from Benton Harbor, was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

Anyone who has information regarding these incidents, or any other crimes in Kalamazoo, is encouraged to contact the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at 269-337-8120 or Silent Observer at 269-343-2100.
