On December 7 at approximately 2:07 AM, officers from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) responded to a report of a red sedan that had crashed into a home in the 3500 block of Mount Olivet. Responding officers arrived to find the vehicle on its side after striking the front corner of the house, causing significant structural damage. The driver was able to self-extricate without issue, and the home was safely evacuated. With no need for structural stabilization to perform a rescue.
The driver, a 47-year-old male Kalamazoo resident, appeared to be under the influence and was arrested for OWI causing injury. One resident, who had been in the family room at the time of the crash, sustained a non-life-threatening injury and was transported to a local area hospital for medical treatment. Other family members were able to stay elsewhere for the evening.
