Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) officers and fire/rescue personnel responded Wednesday afternoon to a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of South Rose Street and Lovell Street.
At approximately 1:33 p.m. on December 10, a gray SUV traveling southbound on South Rose Street left the roadway after the driver reportedly experienced a medical emergency. The vehicle struck a light pole and a cement barrier before coming to a stop. The light pole came to rest on top of the vehicle.
Fire/Rescue Personnel from KDPS station 4/5, already in the area on another call, arrived first and found the 57-year-old female driver unresponsive. Personnel safely removed the driver from the vehicle and began life-saving efforts. Responders were able to regain stable vital signs before the driver was transported to a local area hospital, where she was last listed in critical but stable condition.
KDPS officers secured the scene and the Forensic Lab Unit responded to assist with scene processing. The crash remains under investigation.
