KDPS Investigating Shooting on East Stockbridge Avenue

Published on October 27, 2026

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) is investigating a shooting that left an 18-year-old male injured Monday afternoon.

On October 26, 2026, at approximately 1:31 p.m., KDPS officers responded to the 500 block of East Stockbridge Avenue following reports of a shooting. Witnesses reported seeing a male lying in a front yard and indicated that the suspect had fled the area in a black van.

Upon arrival, officers secured the scene and provided medical assistance to the victim, who had sustained a gunshot wound to his leg. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment and is currently in stable condition.

Preliminary information suggests the victim and suspect were known to one another and that an argument may have preceded the shooting.

Despite extensive efforts to locate the suspect, including searches at multiple locations, the individual remains outstanding. KDPS Criminal Investigations Division detectives and Crime Lab personnel responded to assist with the ongoing investigation.

The department is asking anyone with information about this case or any other criminal activity to call the Criminal Investigations Division at 269-337-8139. Information can also be provided anonymously through the Kalamazoo Silent Observer tip line at 269-343-2100, the “P3Tips” app, or online at www.KalamazooSilentObserver.com.
