Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 100 block of Reed Avenue late Sunday night.
At approximately 10 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25, 2026, a caller reported hearing gunfire and indicated that a person had been shot in the area. The first responding officer located a 31-year-old man on the sidewalk with an apparent gunshot wound to the upper back. Life-saving measures were immediately initiated. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he died shortly after arrival.
The investigation led to the execution of search warrants at three locations within the city of Kalamazoo. During the searches, officers seized three handguns, one rifle and additional evidence. A 43-year-old man was arrested on weapons-related charges and lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail.
The homicide suspect has not yet been located. The KDPS Criminal Investigations Division is actively investigating this incident.
