KDPS Investigates Non-Fatal Shooting on Brookmont Drive

On Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2026, at approximately 7:44 p.m., officers with the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety were notified that a shooting victim was en route to a local hospital in a private vehicle. A 17-year-old male received medical treatment for a gunshot wound and is listed in stable condition.

Officers responded to the hospital to investigate. The preliminary investigation indicates the shooting occurred in the 3000 block of Brookmont Drive during an attempted robbery following an arranged meeting between the victim and the suspects.

Following the shooting, the two suspects fled on foot. The suspects are described as two younger Black males wearing dark hoodies. One of the suspects was also wearing a black mask.

During the investigation, a search warrant was executed at a nearby residence to locate evidence. The incident remains under investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division.
