The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) proudly participated in the Maranda's Park Party event held at Woods Lake Elementary yesterday, July 17. The event hosted hundreds of Kalamazoo Public School students from Pre-K through 5th grade who enjoyed an afternoon of fun, learning, and community connection.

This vibrant community celebration featured a wide range of interactive booths and activities, including crowd favorites like Craig’s Cruisers, Bronson Priority Health, and Meijer. Children also enjoyed inflatable games, prizes, and hands-on fun.

KDPS officers were on-site with a fire engine and police cruiser, engaging with students and their families. Public Safety Officers handed out stickers, gave safety demonstrations, and posed for photos with the excited students. The event served as a valuable opportunity for young students to meet officers in a positive and friendly environment, helping build trust and familiarity between public safety personnel and the community.

“We are always honored to be invited to events like this,” said Sgt. Fidel Mireles “Building relationships with our youth is one of the most important investments we can make in our community’s future.”

The Maranda's Park Party is one of many community-focused initiatives supported by Kalamazoo Public Schools and their partners to create lasting positive connections with local families.
