Kalamazoo, MI: On Monday, September 22, 2025, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) detectives and officers safely arrested a wanted 16-year-old male juvenile and recovered multiple stolen firearms during an investigation into an apartment in the 1300 block of Fox Ridge.

Earlier that day a detective from the Criminal Investigations Division (CID) received information that the juvenile, who has prior weapon-related charges, was inside the residence. As detectives began their response, they were advised that several small children were possibly inside the apartment and that additional juveniles were believed to be in possession of firearms.

With the support of the KDPS Community Policing Unit, officers made contact with the occupants of the apartment. A slow, methodical process was used to ensure the safe removal of the children. The wanted juvenile was located and taken into custody without incident.

Detectives continued their investigation and searched the apartment, locating multiple stolen firearms. The investigation into these firearms is ongoing.

“Throughout this investigation, our top priority was the immediate safety of the children in the apartment and the surrounding neighborhood,” said Sgt. Daniel Chenier of the Criminal Investigations Division. “Removing guns from the hands of children is critical to protecting our community.”

KDPS encourages anyone with information about illegal firearms to contact the department at (269) 337-8123. Anonymous tips can be submitted through the Kalamazoo Silent Observer tip line at 269-343-2100, the “P3Tips” app, or online at www.KalamazooSilentObserver.com.
