The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) is investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred Wednesday evening along South Westnedge Avenue.

At approximately 8:45 p.m. on March 25, officers responded to the 1200 block of South Westnedge Avenue for a reported personal injury crash. Upon arrival, officers located a 52-year-old adult male in the roadway with catastrophic injuries. Life EMS personnel and responding officers determined the individual was deceased at the scene.

The victim’s name is not being released at this time. KDPS extends its deepest condolences to the victim’s family and friends during this difficult time.

Preliminary investigation indicates the victim was struck by a vehicle near the intersection of Axtell Street and South Westnedge Avenue. Witnesses reported seeing two vehicles traveling at a high rate of speed in the area at the time of the crash. Utilizing FUSUS and LPR technology, the suspect vehicle was identified and later recovered unoccupied in Galesburg.
