Driver Arraigned in Speedway Gas Station Crash

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) has arrested and formally charged the driver involved in a March crash at a Speedway gas station on S. Westnedge Avenue.

Eric David Johnson was arraigned on July 2, 2025, and is facing the following charges:

  • Two counts of Reckless Driving Causing Serious Impairment of a Body Function
  • Two counts of Operating While Intoxicated Causing Serious Injury

The incident occurred on March 19, 2025, just after 1 p.m., when a vehicle driven by Mr. Johnson left the roadway and entered the fueling area of the Speedway gas station in the 3900 block of S. Westnedge Avenue. The vehicle struck multiple people and vehicles, dislodging a fuel pump.

KDPS police, fire, and EMS units responded swiftly and provided medical care at the scene. Two adult males were transported to local hospitals with serious injuries. Both have since been in recovery.
