On May 30, 2026, members of the Crime Reduction Team (CRT) were conducting a directed patrol to combat gun violence in the 800 block of Riverview Drive where an active Mobile Nuisance Party was taking place.  During the directed patrol CRT members observed a male showing clear indicators or being armed with a firearm while participating in the Mobile Nuisance Party.

CRT members attempted to contact the male in a parking lot; however he fled on foot with two other males upon sight of police.  The foot pursuit ended when the three males entered a vehicle, which was quickly detained by CRT and KDPS operations personnel who responded to assist.  All three males were removed from the vehicle, each of which had an illegal firearm concealed on their person.  One of the firearms was reported to Battle Creek Police Department as being stolen in 2024.  During a subsequent search, a rifle was also found concealed inside the vehicle.

All three males, two 18-year-olds and one 19-year-old, were found to be Battle Creek residents.  They were lodged at Kalamazoo County Jail for illegal weapon offenses, resisting and obstructing, and receiving and concealing stolen property.
