Arrests Made in Attempted Armed Robbery

Around 1 a.m. on May 7, 2026, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) officers responded to an attempted armed robbery in the 1000 block of Interfaith Boulevard. The victim reported being held at gunpoint by two subjects during a robbery attempt. The suspects fled before police arrived.

Within an hour, officers located the suspect vehicle at an apartment complex in the 1300 block of Sherwood Avenue. Officers conducted a high-risk traffic stop and detained three occupants without incident. All three subjects were arrested on multiple charges.

A 15-year-old male juvenile was lodged at the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home on charges of assault with the intent to rob while armed, assault with a dangerous weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, and one counts of felony firearm. His name will not be released due to his age.

A 17-year-old male juvenile was lodged at the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home on charges of assault with the intent to rob while armed, assault with a dangerous weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, and two counts of felony firearm. His name will not be released due to his age.

An 18-year-old male, Jaylyn Lamont Colbert, was lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail on charges of assault with the intent to rob while armed, assault with a dangerous weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, and three counts of felony firearm. He was arraigned on May 8, 2026, by Judge Becket J. Jones and received a $500,000 bond.

During a search of the vehicle, officers recovered two firearms, including a 9mm semi-automatic pistol and an AR-style pistol. Officers also located high-capacity magazines and ammunition inside the vehicle. The 9mm pistol had been reported stolen out of Arizona.
