Arrest Made in Fatal Hit-and-Run Investigation
Published on May 05, 2026
An arrest has been made in connection with the fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred March 25 along South Westnedge Avenue.
Darqareoin Damont Mills, 29, was taken into custody in Haywood County, Tennessee, on outstanding warrants issued by the Kalamazoo County Office of the Prosecuting Attorney on April 29, 2026. The warrants charge Mills with second-degree murder and failure to stop at the scene of an accident causing death.
The United States Marshals Service took Mills into custody following a coordinated investigation involving the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety and the Michigan Department of Corrections Absconder Recovery Unit.
Mills waived extradition this morning and is expected to be transported back to Kalamazoo, where he will face arraignment on the listed charges.
“This arrest reflects the persistence of our investigators and the strength of our partnerships at the local, state, and federal level,” said Captain Danielle Guilds, head of the Criminal Investigations Division. “We remained committed to this case from the start, and we hope this brings a measure of accountability and closure to Mark’s loved ones.”
This arrest stems from the March 25 incident in which Mark McBride, 52, was struck and killed in the 1200 block of South Westnedge Avenue. The suspect vehicle fled the scene following the crash.
The investigation remains active. No additional information is being released at this time.
