Kalamazoo Public Safety is an advocate of residential sprinklers. Working smoke alarms have saved many lives by providing early detection of fires within homes. However, it is essential that you check your batteries at least twice a year (daylight savings time changes are a great opportunity) to ensure your smoke alarms will work when needed. Unfortunately, many people still die in homes with smoke alarms because the batteries are dead.
A residential sprinkler system does not need batteries. These systems are waiting for a fire 24/7 without batteries, electricity, or any human involvement. They are ready to quickly put out a fire, and in most cases only one sprinkler head will need to activate to put out a fire.
The furnishings in our homes now are so much more combustible than in past decades. The synthetic, plastic-based materials cause modern fires to burn much faster and hotter, and create large amounts amounts of combustible smoke. Residential sprinklers are the best tool to suppress them.
