House Fire 1300 Bridge
Kalamazoo, MI: On February 21st, 2012 at approximately 2 a.m. Kalamazoo Public Safety dispatch received a call reporting a residential house fire in the 1300 block of Bridge St. The first officer on scene reported heavy flames coming from the rear of the house. A short time later a resident advised that everyone was out of the house except for the family pet dog.
Officers made entry into the home to extinguish the fire. The fire had spread through the walls and up into the attic. Using a combination of interior, exterior and roof operations the fire was finally brough under control after roughly an hour.
One firefighter sustained a minor injury to the hand. The residents escaped the home unharmed. Unfortunately the dog was found deceased inside the home.
The origin of the fire does not appear to be suspicious. The residents believe that the fire started from a wood stove operating in the back part of the home. The Fire Marshall is still investing.
