    Vehicle Occupants Hurt in Traffic Crash

     

    Kalamazoo, MI: 

     

    On Saturday, April 21, 2012, at approximately 4:00a.m., KDPS officers responded to a traffic crash at W. Main/Monroe.

     

    Upon arrival, officers found one car turned upside down on its roof, which was crushed.  It appeared that the vehicle ran into a pole, causing it to land in the position it was found. Extrication was utilized to remove the occupants from the vehicle and they were both transported to Bronson Hospital via LIFE Ambulance.  A 22-year-old female Kalamazoo resident is still at the hospital in critical condition.  A 23-year-old male Kalamazoo resident was treated and released.

     

    The investigation is still ongoing and is being handled by the Criminal Investigations Division.  Details on other specifics of this incident not mentioned here are not available at this time.

  • Motorcyclist Injured in Traffic Crash

    Motorcyclist Hurt in Traffic Crash

     

    Kalamazoo, MI: 

     

    On Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at approximately 8:00a.m., KDPS officers responded to a traffic crash at Portage/E. Lovell. 

     

    A motorcyclist was traveling south on Portage Rd when a pickup, traveling north on Portage Rd, made a left turn (westbound) and collided with the motorcyclist.  The driver of the pickup was at-fault and cited for failure to yield the right-of-way.  Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

     

    The motorcyclist had head, face and arm injuries and was transported by LIFE EMS Ambulance to Bronson Hospital for treatment.  The injuries were not deemed life threatening.  The driver of the pickup was not hurt.

  • Graphic Packaging Fire 1-25-2012

    Kalamazoo, MI: 

     

    On Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at approximately 6:30 a.m., Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers responded to Graphic Packaging, 1500 N. Pitcher, for a report from employees of a fire in one of their buildings.

     

    A ground floor fire involving machinery was quickly extinguished by the sprinkler system, but officers had to stay on scene to locate and extinguish fire that had extended to the roof.

     

    Officers from Kalamazoo Public Safety, assisted by firefighters from the Kalamazoo Township Fire Department, remained on scene for several hours to both extinguish and do a thorough check for fire extension. 

     

    There were no reported injuries during this incident.  The Kalamazoo Public Safety Fire Marshal is investigating the specific cause of the fire.
