  • Public Safety Officers Investigate Home Invasion and Sexual Assault

    KALAMAZOO, MI.  Public Safety Officers were sent to the 1600 block of Reed St. on February 25th at 3:03am on a report of a home invasion and gunshots being fired.  During the initial investigation, officers determined that an unknown suspect had gained entry into the home and displayed a handgun to the resident. 

     

    The resident, a 14 year old female, reported that the suspect entered the home and gathered property to be taken.  The suspect sexually assaulted the juvenile and fled after another resident arrived at the home.  The suspect confronted this second resident and robbed him at gunpoint as well.  The suspect left walking westbound on Reed St. at which point the suspect fired two gunshots at the ground while walking down the street.

     

    There were no visible injuries to either victim.  The juvenile was taken to the YWCA for an examination.  The suspect is described as a black male in his 20’s, 5’8” to 6’0” tall, 200-230 lbs. He has corn rolls or braids in his hair and has 2 or 3 tear drop tattoos near his left eye.  He was wearing a black baseball cap, blue hoodie under a black coat and blue jeans.

  • Deceased Woman Identified from Southside Apartment

    KALAMAZOO, MI:  The woman found dead in an apartment on Mills St. last night has been positively identified as Jessica Hart, age 36 of Kalamazoo.

  • Woman Found Dead in Southside Apartment

    KALAMAZOO, MI:  Public Safety Officers were sent to the 1300 block of Mills St. on January 22nd at 9:21pm on a report of woman dead on a couch in the living room.  Officers discovered the unidentified female had died well before their arrival.

     

    Detectives are currently working to positively identify the deceased woman and make family notifications.  The cause of death is currently under investigation, foul play is not suspected at this time.

  • Suspect Arrested After Robbing Downtown Jewelry Store

    KALAMAZOO, MI:  Public Safety Officers were sent to Nord Jewelers at 227 W. Michigan Ave. yesterday at 1:52pm after an employee reported a man stole a Rolex watch from the store.  The suspect portrayed himself as a customer, asked to see an expensive Rolex watch and fled the store with it on foot.  An employee gave chase to the suspect, at which point the suspect indicated he had a gun on his person.

     

    The employee obtained a vehicle description and plate number of the suspect vehicle.  Det. Cory Ghiringhelli located the vehicle as it was getting onto I-94 east.  Det. Ghiringhelli followed the vehicle into Battle Creek when deputies from the Kalamazoo County Sheriff Dept. and Battle Creek Police were able to stop the vehicle on Beckley Ave.

     

    The suspect, a 24 year old from the Detroit area, is currently lodged in the Kalamazoo County Jail for Armed Robbery and is expected to be arraigned on Wednesday.  The stolen watch was recovered on the suspect’s person.  No weapon was located.

  • Jewelry Stolen During Home Invasion

    KALAMAZOO, MI:  Public Safety Detectives are investigating a home invasion that occurred in the 800 block of Edgemoor St. in the City of Kalamazoo on December 4th.  

     

    The intruder entered the home and stole thousands of dollars worth of jewelry from the residence.  Below are photos of some of the jewelry that was stolen during the break in. Silent Observer is offering a $5000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the individual or individuals who are responsible for this crime.

  • Kalamazoo Woman Dies in Suspicious Fire

    Kalamazoo, MI: Public Safety Officers were sent to a fire in the 4400 block of Clayborne Dr. in the Clayborne Court Apt. complex on Saturday night at 8:27pm.  Officers found fire in the bedroom of the apartment, it was quickly extinguished without further damage to any of the other apartment units.  While searching the bedroom, the body of a female was located on the bed.   The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

     

    Officers have a tentative identification on the female, being the 47 year old resident of the apartment.  The cause of the fire and the woman’s death are currently under investigation.

  • Two Men Shot During Altercation

    Kalamazoo, MI:  Public Safety Officers responded to a report of shots fired in the parking lot at 2627 W. Michigan Ave. at 1:03am this morning.  Officers discovered there had been an altercation in the parking lot between several individuals and an unknown suspect began firing a gun.

     

    The injured individuals are both Kalamazoo residents, one being a 20yr. old man who was shot in the chest and is currently listed in stable condition at Bronson Hospital.  The second victim is 22 years old who was shot in the arm.  He was treated and released from Bronson Hospital.  Neither of the victims are students at Western Michigan University or Kalamazoo Valley Community College.

  • Man Shot During Early Morning Break In

    Kalamazoo, MI:  Public Safety Officers responded to a report of a man shot in the 1800 block of Fulford St. at 5:42 this morning.  Officers discovered that the victim, a 25 year old Kalamazoo man was shot in the leg after an intruder broke into a home he was visiting. 

     

    The intruder forced entry into the home and was confronted by the victim.  The suspect fired multiple gunshots at the victim, striking him once in the leg.  The suspect then fled the area but was known by the resident of the home and the suspect’s name was given to police.

     

    Detectives found a possible location for the suspect in the 900 block of Stockbridge St.,  he was ultimately arrested attempting to leave the home at approximately 11:20 am.  A handgun was recovered from the suspect at the time of arrest.

     

    The suspect, a 28 year old Kalamazoo man was arrested for Assault with Intent to Murder, Home Invasion, Felony Firearm, Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Carrying a Concealed Weapon.  He is currently lodged in the Kalamazoo County Jail.

  • Two Separate Shootings over the Weekend on Washington St.

    Kalamazoo, MI:  Two separate shootings over the weekend injured two individuals and officers are asking the public for assistance in identifying the suspects.

     

    On 09-28-14 at approximately 1:25am, Public Safety Officers were notified of an individual arriving at Bronson Hospital for treatment to a gunshot wound to the face.  The victim, a 21 year old Kalamazoo man, was the passenger in a car driving in the area of Washington and March St. when he was hit by gunfire from an unknown source.  The victim was shot in the face, his injuries are considered non-life threatening.  There is no suspect information at this time.

     

    The second shooting occurred on 09-28-14 at approximately 10:10pm, Public Safety Officers were sent to the 1300 block of Washington St. for shots fired.  They located a 44yr. old Kalamazoo resident with a gunshot wound to his right arm.  The victim reported standing outside when he suddenly heard gunshots and was struck by a bullet. 

     

    The suspects drove by in a green or grey colored sedan and fired shots from the vehicle as it drove past.  The suspects are unknown at this time.

    Kalamazoo, MI:  Public Safety Detectives are looking for the suspect in this felonious assault investigation, we are asking the public for assistance in locating him.  Officers have probable cause to arrest Adam David Shigwadja, age 18.  He is a white male, 5’ 7” tall and approximately 130lbs.  He is known to frequent the Kalamazoo south and east side as well as Paw Paw, MI.   If Mr. Shigwadja is located, please contact Kalamazoo Public Safety at 337-8994.
